Home of one of the most
famous beaches in the world, over 8 million tourist descend upon Daytona for
seasonal events each year. The contour of the shoreline is well defined by
houses, condominiums, and hotels that host thrill-seekers from outside Volusia
county.
Albeit, Daytona beach is considered a resort area for family fun-filled
vacations, it is more accurately a mecca for motorsports drawing large crowds
each year. For over 50 years the infamous Daytona Beach Road Course hosted
racing on the beach due to hard-packcd sand allowing two-wheel-drive vehicles
to maneuver with ease. Later in 1959, the beach course was replace by the
Daytona International Speedway owned by William France.
Some events at Daytona such as Biketoberfest accompanied by thousands of
bikers, have provoked lawmakers to install high-security cameras that film the
beach area 24 hours a day to discourage rowdiness.
Not only have beach-goers descended on the beach to enjoy various water-sports,
but film-makers have also graced Daytona Beach to shoot the featured film "Days
of Thunder" in 1990. Who would have guessed that an average beach would have
leveraged such an above average usage.
As afore mentiioned, motorsports typically is the major sport in Daytona
drawing millions of visitors each year. NASCAR created by France, is a highly
interactive motor sport attraction that includes motorcycle racing, super cross
racing, motorcycle racing, and much more. Daytona offers a 30-minute open air
tour of the world-class 31-degree high bank, garage area, and pit stop area.
Jump behind the wheel of NASCAR's 2 white-knuckle simulators that will stress
your senses to the limit.
Amongst a variety of activities, travelers from around the world, come to tour
Florida's most precious resource, the manatees. Get up-close and personal with
these harmless sea creatures in their natural habitat. Enjoy Daytona's
magnificent lush landscape with their light house tours.
After a long day at the race track, many discover Daytona's
Sun Splash Park offering 4-acres of fun-filled activities. While your relaxing
in the picnic area, kids can get wet in the interactive water fountains. Kids
will just love the shaded playground areas and the Coca- Cola sponsored "cool
zone".
Daytona would not be the same without letting the kids behind the wheel. Now
they can compate at the Speed Park Motorsports against other competitors and
not crash dad's car. Motorsports offers a variety of tracks for different skill
levels including the Sports Grand Prix Track, Thunder mania that features high
banks and tough turns, or the 1,200 foot long serpentine trail.
